Hello Bala,

what is the basis support package level and kernel release of the affected system? As of certain basis and kernel release the syslog sender (rslgsend) and collector (rslgcoll) processes are not required anymore.

Hello Alwina,

please find below support pack and kernel level.

Can you please check and let me know is rslgcoll and rslgsend are obsolete in this version?

Bala

Hello Bala,

thank you for the info. In this release you have still to use rslgcoll. But there are some points to consider. The SAP kernel 7.21 can write the syslog in 2 formats, old and new, and the basis release 7.00, the syslog sender and collector understand only the old syslog format. In this system the parameter "rslg/new_layout = 9" must be set, so that the kernel 7.21 always writes the syslog in the old format. Is this parameter alerady set? If not, please set it, stop the system, delete all syslog files (local and central), cleanup the shared memory of the system since the information about the syslog is stored also in SCSA, and start the system again. Please refer to the SAP note "1517379 - Which system log format does the 720 kernel write?", it is valid also for the 7.21 kernel.

If the syslog collector will still report the same error, please check stderr* files in the working directory of the instance, if there is more information in the stderr* files, which file is missing. Please take a look at the parameter rslg/central/file, this parameter specify the path to the central syslog file. Please check, if this file was created and if the instance can access this file.

Hello Alwina,

Thanks for your response, I find parameter rslg/new_layout = 9 set in system.

In stderr files i find this this message

the file in location rslg/central/file is available and has proper auth

-rw-r--r--    1 <sid>adm   sapsys      1511712 Feb 13 22:54 SLOGJ

please guide me where else should i check.

Hello Bala,

could you please check on OS level, if only one co.* process was started for the whole system?
