Scenario:
We have a multi-tenant setup with one System database and 1 tenant database (BHS).
We would like to use the backup of BHS to create a second tenant database (call it BHD) on the same box.
Is this possible?
Have been reading the Admin guide, Multi tenant guide, and SAP HANA Backup and Recovery article, along with the following notes, but don't see this method mentioned:
1642148 - FAQ: SAP HANA Database Backup & Recovery
1844468 - Homogeneous system copy on SAP HANA
Hello Derek,
Yes, it is possible.
This script is taken from HA200 book.
Recovery of Multitenant Database Containers
For SAP HANA multi-tenant database containers, you can recover the system database. You can also recover a tenant database via the relevant system database. System database and tenant database/s can be recovered one by one in the same system (recovery) or in a different system (system copy) of the type SAP HANA multi-tenant database containers. For a recovery, source database and target database must have identical configurations.
And the answer of your question is explained in detail in below link;

Excellent, thanks Yuksel!
I did the following:
1) Use HANA Cockpit to create new tenant database BWD
2) Stop BWD
3) Use HANA Studio to Recover tenant database BWD
Pointed the recovery to a BHS backup
Good to go ! Going to install a central instance on another server now using SWPM and then point it to BWD, should just be normal system copy/refresh procedures after that.
Not too bad !
I tried to find an option for #1 in HANA Studio but was not able to figure it out.
