Sales BOM - Schedule Lines

Hello gurus,

Our requirement is to configure a Sales BOM where the header material can be entered, then its three components will be exploded beneath it.  The delivery and availability should exist only for the components.  With that, we have setup our header material with category LUMF.  We expect items 10, 20, 30, and 40 on sales order with 10 being completely irrelevant other than serving as header.  Is the standard configuration of item category TAP suited for that?  It looks to me like the configuration includes schedule lines, credit checks, and billing relevance.  In order to have it just serve as a header text and the exploded BOM items make up the actual pricing/delivery/schedule lines in the order, is it as simple as creating a Z-item category and disabling those few checks in item category configuration?

Appreciate any feedback as always!

Hello Kelby,

if I understood you correctly, the main item is used as an entry-aid during order taking and to keep the sub-items within the same delivery group.

Yes, you could create z* item categories by copying , there is nothing wrong with that, but don't you wish to have the header item in the subsequent documents? For example the warehouse to know that these sub-components are part of a single product? Maybe they need to pack them together, also to be able to perform quantity correlation, no idea... so schedule lines still seem a good idea. If you are concerned about credit checks, TAP would not update the credit exposure when CMPRE is zero, so you can carry over this header item to the billing document. If the customer has ordered product A, he would probably want to see product A somewhere in the invoice and not only the list of components.
