Assign a logical system name in midway for a client

Hi Experts,

We have an SAP system running from long time, our functional consultants came across an error "Logical system name missing" some thing like this.

When checked the client settings, we found that no logical system name is assigned for that particular client.

Normally during a system refresh(example from PROD to QA) we run BDLS for logical name conversion. In our case, as no logical name is created earlier, can we go ahead and create a logical system name  and assign it to the client? Do we have to run any step in particular like BDLS? Or do we have any procedure/precautions?

Please suggest.
