B2B Addon with AAEX

Hi,

We are in the process of evaluating B2B solutions using SAP PI. The current company policy dictates that on-premise SAP PI we currently have should not be exposed outside of the company firewall. We are evaluating options for that architecture and one of the solution that we can think of is deploying AAEX outside of the firewall and get it connected to the internal PI instance. That way external B2B partners can send the AS2 Request directly to AAEX that is accessible externally.

The Question i have is although the B2B addon allows all the connectivity options for B2B integration, can it be deployed on AAEX or it is not there yet? Have people used this option and how have those solutions stood up and any concerns they have seen with this approach.

Please suggest your inputs on this.

Hello Arunava,

SAP B2B Add-On can be installed on central Advanced Adapter Engine (of AEX, PO or PI dual stack) and on non-central Advanced Adapter Engines - generally speaking, to any Adapter Engine which release is compatible with release and SP version of B2B Add-On (refer to a SAP Note 1695522 for compatibility matrix).

When an organization needs to set up Adapter Engine runtime in such a way that it can communicate with external systems which are located outside of corporate network perimeter, then most commonly non-central Advanced Adapter Engine is installed in DMZ area, whereas central Integration Server (AEX, PO or PI dual stack) is installed in corporate intranet. It is not really common scenario to install AEX in DMZ in order to achieve described requirement, since normally you would only need runtime to process messages and interact with external systems (which non-central Advanced Adapter Engine offers) in DMZ, and not design/configuration tools and SLD which are included on top of Advanced Adapter Engine functionality in AEX.

Regards,

Vadim
