Query about Database Upgrade with SUM

Former Member

Hello,

Does the latest SUM tool perform the Database upgrade as well ?

For example - Currently the SAP system is at Oracle 11g and we are using SUM tool to update to EHP7 SAP ERP 6.0, so will the tool also perform the upgrade to Oracle 12

OR

Oracle Database upgrade has to be as a separate activity (and can't be done with SUM)

Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards

Nisha

Hello Nisha,

No, you'll have to upgrade the operating system and database system manually, if required. SUM only checks the minimum versions required for the update and informs you accordingly. The procedure is described in section "Update of the Operating System and Database System: Overview" of the SUM guide, available at http://help.sap.com/sltoolset --> System Maintenance --> Guides for SUM 1.0 SP16.

Best regards,

Hi Boris,

Many thanks for quick response!

I have few more related queries -

  1. If we get a prompt to update the versions it would be mandatory to do it as per SUM ?

   2. In case we already have required versions / levels of Database as per PAM matrix, then we can also perform the Database upgrade after SUM update.

   3. Is there any additional license that we need to request for new database software.

For example - Database upgrade from Oracle 11g to Oracle 12c, so is there any additional request which need to be placed. (Note that software is available for download currently)

Please advice.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Nisha,

1. Yes, SUM evaluates your target selected as per the stack file and identifies pre-requisites - OS/DB level for your target state and therefore prompts you to upgrade the same beforehand.

2. If you have the required versions of target state, any other upgrade could be performed after the procedure. Please note that apart from PAM, there are notes which depict the DB level required for a target SP level. Please see note 1951491. SUM shall prompt you if the such an SP level is included and you need to update your DB before the procedure.

3. I am not too sure about the seperate licensing for DB - but I guess you already have the license if you are able to download the software legitemately.

Warm Regards,
