physical documents list for upload

Hello Experts,

Greetings for the Day!!!

We are about to implement DMS at one of our client location. Though the question may sound too basic, client wants to know how other companies utilize DMS from the physical (NON-SAP) documents point of view. for eg.,

1. for PO, we can attach RFQs,Terms & conditions(MoUs) etc..,

2. for equipments in PM, their mfg manuals & related docs.

3. for projects/WBS in PS, the drawings, consultancy docs etc..

kindly help me in differentiating different documents per business transaction for PO,MIGO,MIRO,sales order, delivery&invoice.

Best Regards.

Hi,

With respect to external documents most of the client would like to store such document in external server rather than ECC server so DMS client will have content server in place.

How the external document is linked to its related transaction:

It is linked with standard Func of SAP DMS called object link, through which DMS stored in SAP DMS in content server can be access through its related transaction like PO, SO, Project Etc. There are some other func like ECL viewer if you are looking for Engg drawing through which we can view the 2D and 3D drawings in SAP itself.

Please find the below link which may be helpful for your understanding,

Object Links in Purchasing - ERP SCM - SCN Wiki

Maintain object links - Product Lifecycle Management - SCN Wiki

Hi Nayeem,

Thanks for your response and sharing the links.

We provided a generic list of documents, but our client wants to compare & understand which documents are being attached by companies utilizing DMS before implementing. Though it is process specific which varies between companies, can you from your experience share the doc list which are attached to SAP for the above mentioned business transactions,if available.

Best Regards.
