CIN Implementation relevance & scope

Dear Friends,

I have searched the forum regarding this topic and got quite few documents and links explaining what should be configured related to CIN.
But question is related to the relevance and scope of it.

Our European pharma company likes to (sales) roll out in its Indian company. We already have SAP implemented there with MM, PP, WM modules
and part of SD to do export sales. It is now required to make settings in the system to make the local sales possible. I am somewhat aware of the special pricing conditions required for India but I am in dilemma regarding the relevance and scope CIN implementation. Could someone shed light on the following questions?

  1. Is CIN mandatory for all companies in India when they want to sell their products in India?
  2. Is the CIN implementation same for all industries or are there any industry related solutions? (we don’t use any IS related modules but standard SAP)
  3. In which modules CIN related implementation is required? SD, MM & FICO or as well PP, WM, QM even we just implement the sales rollout?
  4. What would be typical duration of sales roll out related to CIN (We already have necessary master data available, outstanding activities would be to fine tune the pricing procedures, implement CIN if required, and create conditions and customer master data which is quite limited)
  5. What are the forms required apart from delivery note and billing forms? Are there any forms required related to CIN?

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Sats

  1. Is CIN mandatory for all companies in India when they want to sell their products in India? - Maintenance of Excise records is mandatory if you manufacture and sell excisable products in India. SAP CIN addresses this requirement in Indian geography. It has various functionalities to handle the various statutory requirements related to different scenarios and captures all the relevant data which can be used for Forms printing and filing of monthly/quarterly returns as applicable.
  2. Is the CIN implementation same for all industries or are there any industry related solutions? (we don’t use any IS related modules but standard SAP) - CIN implementation is generally the same. Certain scenarios and requirements may vary across industries say Petroleum industry, Tobacco industry, etc.
  3. In which modules CIN related implementation is required? SD, MM & FICO or as well PP, WM, QM even we just implement the sales rollout? - CIN involves SD, MM and FI.
  4. What would be typical duration of sales roll out related to CIN (We already have necessary master data available, outstanding activities would be to fine tune the pricing procedures, implement CIN if required, and create conditions and customer master data which is quite limited) - Cannot comment.
  5. What are the forms required apart from delivery note and billing forms? Are there any forms required related to CIN? - Excise invoice (You can accommodate Excise related information in your billing form also), ARE1, ARE3 etc.

1. If you need to handle Indian taxes in SAP then CIN is a must.

2. CIN can be used evenif it is IS.

3. SD,MM FI as well as PP if internal movements need to be tracked by Part I.

4. Depends on your scenarios. you can do it along side your rollout.

5. there are some standard forms available with SAP, but most of them you need to customise or buy addon products. the requirement depends on the kind of business and the need of Excise dept.
