Hi Cliff,
Yes you are right.
1. non-SAP data load scope items are retired as "interaction data model" is now meant to handle any non SAP data. You could use "items of interaction" and "contact load" scope items to load non-SAP data of your choice.
2. Earlier we used to load data from Data Services by calling the RFC function module and now we are using oData service. It is only the the API change but still data service is being used to extract, transform and call the API.
