Differences in batch management in IM, WM and EWM

Hello all,

Can you please advice on following -

Is there any difference in configuration, batch determination or use of batches in EWM when compared with IM and WM?

Is there anything unique behavior at application or additional capability that EWM brings over IM and EWM for batch management?

Regards,

Chaitanya

Hi Chaitanya,

the differences are low:

- In SAP ECC you have different Batch requirement level (plant, material/client) with different class types (022 resp. 023), in EWM you have only one class (230).

- There are some restrictions regarding batches on plant level with older SAP EWM releases - see customer influence topic https://influence.sap.com/D8883 - but this should hopefully be removed with new EWM release

The master data distribution from ECC to SAP EWM works via CIF: It will replicate the class, characteristics (indepent if they are standard characteristics (LOBM_...) or customer specific) incl. the assignment to the class and the batches with the corresponding characteristic values.

You can use characteristics (no mandatory characteristics!), you can create the batches in SAP EWM and they will be created in SAP ECC in parallel.

Regarding the usage of batches in processes there are differences as the processes between SAP WM and SAP EWM differ.

You can find more Information about Batches in EWM in the official SAP EWM docu:

http://help.sap.com/ewm

(in the application help is an own chapter about batch management in SAP EWM)

Best regards,

Matthias

Hi,

ECC & EWM batch classification can connect through the organisational area along with class type.

in ECC class type is 023, but in EWM class type is 230.

to work with EWM batches , there are three mandatory characteristics need to be maintained

1. country of origin

2. expiry date

3. batch status.

When used with SAP ERP as the master system, it would  need to enable batch management in SAP

ERP as well as the SAP EWM system. Batches are managed centrally in the SAP ERP system as

the  master data system for batches. From SAP ERP, batches and classes/characteristics can be

distributed to all connected SAP EWM systems via the core interface framework (CIF). SAP EWM

allows creating or changing the batches locally in the system.
