Hi,

       we are running ECC6 (EHP7) ,DB-Sybase ASE15.7.

1:

We take backup (dump database) regular basis.

Is there require backup for logs too.

I am very confused about log backup strategy. And when it should be truncated.

2:

We are taking just prod database backup. Is any requirement for master database

     or other system database backup.

Please can any one share proper guideline regarding production backup strategy?

Hi

Database = data & log files.  Once the DB backup completed,  you can start the log truncate backup.

In /usr/sap main in which start and stop the SAP system.

Hi

SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) transaction dumps are incremental backups that will backup just the changes in the transaction log since the last transaction dump. They can be very useful as an alternate to full database dumps.

Transaction dumps can also be used to provide backup redundancy. For example, if a full database backup fails or goes missing, you could then restore an earlier good database dump, and then restore a complete set of transaction dumps. The restoration process will take longer, of course, but will still be much better than a lost backup.

dump transaction SID to "Drive\SIDLOGBACKUP.bak" with compression=101

Hi

We usually set log size (transnational) during the application installation

Default size is 1 GB . if the log exceed then system stops responding

We should take log backup regularly depending on the size of log in database
