Dear experts,
we would like to use nwbc 5.0 with TM, but we have lots of users and we need to be able to make them use nwbc and still have the same authorization checks and if possible have them use nwbc when they are calling Transaction nwbc from the gui menu.
Any tips? We would like to use nwbc because Performance is better and ist more comfortable. But, we cannot ask each of our users to download it, make favorites. We need to give them a set of favorites.
Thanks in advance
Petra
Hi Petra,
some thoughts:
- The Business Client for Desktop distribution could/should be organized as the SAP GUI installation in former times. (Actually since Business Client 5.0 I only work with NWBC also for the “old” SAP GUI world)
- The available menu and authorizations are controlled via PFCG roles. We deliver some standard roles with TM.
- For the future it is important to know that only the Desktop version supports Fiori apps and Fiori Launchpad.
- As you are on TM 9.1 you should start to use the /UI2/NWBC path instead of /NWBC.

There are parameters which can be set via transaction /UI2/NWBC_CFG_CUST
Setting USE_BROWSER_CACHE to ON is for example improving performance for navigation.
It is also possible to redirect the external alias NWBC to the /UI2/NWBC path in SICF.
- In the Desktop version it is possible to integrate search providers. There is a recent post of the TM podcast series which talks about it (“TM Quick Search”):

Hi Petra,
can't you distribute the NWBC like any other software in the company you are working in?
The menu (available applications in NWBC) is controlled by user roles which is effective in desktop and browser variant. For the favorites I don't know whether they can be maintained centrally.
Guess using /nwbc to start desktop NWBC is not possible. It would also not make sense in context of SAP philosophy, which is not to use SAP GUI at all as an end user and use only NWBC Desktop instead (which also renders GUI transactions).
