Hi,
Our client is implementing SAP EWM and after go live they plan to go for ASRS ( high bay) in one of the area in same warehouse. They have identified WCS system but are considering both options of EWM MFS or using WCS system itself for product movement in ASRS,
Anyone came across the scenario or have any pointers on what could be deciding factors for this decision?
Hi Ashu,
You have to consider the features of both systems.
Advantage of using SAP EWM MFS,
It connects directly to SAP system
Cranes and conveyors are connected to SAP system without a third party system
No separate license needed for MFS if we use EWM
Reduces the number of interfaces ( we need to have an interface for third party WCU to connect SAP )
It uses the same EWM objects such as warehouse order, handling unit, warehouse tasks etc...in SAP EWM MFS.
basically we have a single system for warehouse and WCU.
I hope it helps.
thanks,
Jobi

In my experience, the deciding factor has been the additional licensing , support and ongoing maintenance costs of adding an additional WCS and not using MFS. The exception has been In cases where the WCS and equipment existed prior to EWM implementation.
