Dear All,
I am new to Business Objects tool, i have one query related to universe designing.
From BO 4.0 we have two kinds of semantic layer tools are available for creating universes. So, here when we go for UDT and When we go for IDT?
And what is the use of UDT & IDT in 4.0?
Please help me on this .....
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Boya
The Universe Design Tool (UDT) is a legacy tool that preceeds 4.0 and can only create .UNV universes. The Information Design Tool (IDT) is new in 4.0 and creates .UNX universes. Web Intelligence in a 4.0 installation can use either .UNV or .UNX universes.
If you have to pick between the two choose IDT.

Other then that...
In UDT you can make universe on single connection i.e on single database but in case of IDT you can make multisource universe i.e having more then 1 database connection to single universe.
IN UDT we can't use data foundation layer for another business layers like wise for IDT we can create the single data foundation & multiple business layers on top of this single data foundation.
Please let us know your requirements so that we can suggest you the best way you can use IDT or UDT.
Thanks,
Swapnil
Hi Govarthan,
I have created universes in both of the tools. IDT is better UDT.
First of all , IDT is neatly aligned compared to UDT.
There is many thing noticeably good in IDT such as the explorer tabs , splitting of universe development into three major flows(Connections , Data foundation and Business Layer).
When you have IDT , why you are trying to create universe in UDT. IDT is right choice.
IDT has big advantage " Multi-source Universe creation" which is not in UDT.
