Dear support,
During my upgrade project i have finished my system copy activity for 4.0B system from source NT 4.0 to Target Win 2000 machine. Now i am upgrading my database from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.6 on Win 2000 server. I have successfully finished upgradation and database working fine. Even R3trans -d , Tnsping , Lsnrctl service
all commands works perfectly ,
BUT WHEN I start sap MMC it just does not respond .It neither shows anything in box not even gray or yellow status.I have done my oracle upgradation previously on NT machine and worked perfectly but this time the error is difficult to figure out becaz nether dispatcher or message server is shown in SAP MMC , when i click on start it just hangs.
Best Regards,
AjitR
SAPMMC starts working with 4.5B.
4.0B is/was not supported by MMC.
Maybe the MMC is automatically installed with the EXT-Kernel CD (which was derivied from an 4.6 installation), but it will not work.
you have to use the old SAP Service Manager.
regards
Peter

Hello peter,
I am extremely sorry to mention SAP MMC as our practise is , yes you are right
my SAP SERVICE MANAGER is not working getting hanged , one imp thing is it was working fine before upgrading database , please go through logs which i have posted , i dont find any problem with compatibility or connection to database.
also 996 is the latest patch for 4.0B_ext
ok, that make sense.
I assume that the step starting the database is not working.
have a look at the stderr* files (typically the first one) in the instance work directory.
strdbs.cmd is Oracle release dependend and normally a part of dbatools.sar.
If you are using one of the old generation it might wait on stdin for input in case of an error.
have a look at the process list, is there a sqlplus hanging around?
peter
NO sqlplus works perfect as shown in my post and database is able to start and stop perfectly.also how would i see process list as sap service manager gets hanged and not responding when i click on start button.
Even log file like sapstart soesnt get started. If u say stardbs.cmd is version dependent then how would i det latest strdbs.cmd for service manager.
Thanks peter now sap service manager is working fine but when i start dispatcher is going down , i am attaching few logs for your concern, i dont know why it is taking old oracle home in dev_w0 log as below when i have already set env variables to new oracle home.

>>>>C Got 'K:\oracle\ora81' for ORACLE_HOME from environment
did you change ORACLE_HOME environment variable for prdadm to point to the Oracle9 ORACLE_HOME?
if yes, you have forgotten to update the environment of the SAP System (has to be done manually if R/3 version < 4.5B).
run ntenv2reg.
stop the sap system
stop windows service sapprd_00
start windows service sapprd_00
start the sap system.
regards
Peter
Peter,
i am giving u my ENV list again and u can see that ORACLE_HOME is set to right point .Also please let me know that ntenv2reg is different from what we set at command promt with SET command.

may be that you have recognized that the SAP System itself is started under a different user (SAPServiceSID) than you are doing the environment changes?
how does the environment of the SAP System is set?
In all SAP Windows versions the environment is set by the sapstart*.exe based Windows Service SAP<SID>_##. During Startup of an SAP System the Service reads HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\Environment variables and set the variables in it's process.
environment changes are done to the environment of sidadm using standard windows methods (setx.exe W2K3 or Properties on My Computer...)
How is the environment of <SID>adm is transfered to SAPService<SID> user?
SAP R/3 before 4.5B / after 4.5B if admuser is not set:
after every environment change on <SID>adms environment you have to run ntenv2reg.exe in order to transfer the actual user specific environment of <SID>adm to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\Environment. Well you can do it manually using regedit, but It's not recommended.
SAP Systems as of 4.5B and admuser set:
Everytime you start your SAP System the registry values in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\Environment are deleted, the SAP Start Service (sapstart*.exe) opens the registry hive of the user specified in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\AdmUser, reads his environment variables and transfers them to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\Environment.
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\AdmUser is filled from sapstartsrv.exe's <b>Use environment of User</b> field when creating the service.
there are two more tools dealing with environment:
1. ntreg2env in the case you want permanently copy a SAP System specific environment to users environment.
2. ntreg2cmd which creates a command file for setting up environment for a DOS-Shell.
ntenv2reg would have fixed your problems!
points are appreciated (at least for the tip that the environment is causing your problem)!
-> did you patch the sap kernel (mmc is part of that)?
