ITSM - Asynchronous connection to an external Service Desk over a middleware

Currently I am trying to setup an integration scenario to an external helpdesk using the IT Service Management WebService API via the customer's own integration platform. I have already configured the logical port successfully receiving a System Guid from the integration platform. The Webservice works in an synchronous mode so far, i.e. the Solution Manager expects an immediate answer from the Webservice. But in our scenario an asynchronous processing mode would be preferred in order to avoid timeout exceptions because of unavailability of the external Service Desk. In this scenario the middleware will serve as a buffer of the service requests.

Now comes my question:

Does anybody know if the Solution Manager Webservice API can also be configured as an asynchronous Webservice and how to do this?
