What should I prefer, Eclipse or SAP Web IDE for designing UI5/FIORI apps?

Dear Experts,

I am very new to UI5 and FIORI development and I am ABAP developer.

I have started learning for these techniques following tutorials from SCN/youtube.

But I am getting confused which tool should be used, Eclipse/Web IDE.

I have gone through some threads, mentioning some good points about Web IDE.

But to learn the techniques, which is better?

In future, how SAP is looking towards these tools?

If this question is already discussed on forum, please navigate me there.

Thank you!

Regards,

Tushar C.

In addition to what the links threads state Web IDE is the strategic IDE for UI5 apps.  The UI5 tools created for eclipse are now longer supported and the recommendation is to use Web IDE.

I would suggest following the thread I posted earlier for any news regarding the local/on premise version of Web IDE.

Although SAP indeed (highly) recommends WebIDE for UI5 development, the beauty of it is that you as a developer can use any editor or IDE you're already familiar with;

whether it's Eclipse, WebIDE, WebStorm, IntelliJ, Sublime, Atom, notepad.exe, Emacs, VIM, everything is possible.

As for Eclipse support, at least SAP still supports the latest Mars version too since they have a dedicated update site for SAPUI5 tools at https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/mars
