System Monitoring SM 4.0 - Is a CCMS agent definitely required ?

when implementing Solution monitoring in SM 4.0 i actually performed a connection/configuration to an ABAP Instance sans CCMS agent, seems to be ok and working.So <b>are CCMS agents absolutely necessary</b>,<b>when should they be favoured</b> ,<b>do they provide any specific functionality</b> which would be useful and <b>what would be the work required</b> to get them going...

Any inputs would be really helpful.

Hi Gnana,

I only need to install ccms agents for a Java instance to be connected to the solman diagnostic, or if you want to see the Java alert in the rz20 of a Abap system, as the CEN system=solman system.

For monitoring ABAP system you don´t need futher steps regarding installing agent.

Thx for confirming my understanding,if i need to configure <b>Text alerting/SMS from the central SM</b> will i need to have the CCMS agents on the satellite systems ?
