SAP HANA appliance v/s Database

Former Member

Hi all,

I have my ecc system on ERP 6.0 EHP6 running on Oracle SPARC hardware (OS is Solaris 10 and DB is Oracle 11g). We are planning to implement SAP HANA in the future and want to have some clarifications regarding this technology:

1) I've read about the SAP HANA appliance. What is its purpose?

2) What is the difference between the appliance and the database?

3) In my case, what will be required, the appliance or I go for a migration to the HANA database?

regards,

Suraj

Hello Suraj,

as this utmost basic question of all questions I would suggest you refer to the official documentation already provided for this, not quite small HANA topic.

If you should struggle with getting the whole idea we can of course discuss any ambiguity.

thanks Bojan,

I've looked into several documentation and sap notes but still had some doubts.

Please share any relevant ones as per my above requirements....or do briefly help me with the above questions.

Suraj

Hello Suraj,

appliance basically means that you get HANA Software +  Hardware preconfigured by a SAP partner vendor.

When speaking about HANA database you usually only refer to the HANA Core Engines.

Hopefully this sorts it out.
