what do we mean by DR instance...or DR server... i want the abbreviation...
HI Sateesh,
DR means Disaster revocery.
As the name suggest this instance is kept as a backup for the actual production instance. If the current production instance is down due to any natural calamities(Fire, EQ, Floods) or due to any other disaster(Theft of the Hardware etc) the DR instance will be activated as the backup server and you can avoid production loss by this way.
Normally, DR servers will be kept in other geo location to minimise the loss of active instance and DR instance ( The probabily of a disaster happening in 2 geos simultaniously is very very less).
The settings should be done that both the active instance and the DR instance is in sync at any given point of time so that you can bring the DR instance up at any moment of time.
