Hi All,
I would like to clone or copy 5000 materials.
Is there a method or a transaction code to do a mass copy.
Regards
Sandeep G
HI
In "mass" transaction you can modify your current material . therefore your current material will be changed (if you want to delete old materials and just keep new one) .
But if you want to keep old materials as well , you have to migrate your data to the system .
Migration data to the system (regardless to your system) is possible in 3 ways :
1. transaction : LSMW
this transaction is old but very easy to use . by this transaction you can use excel to migrate your new data . (use of MM60 to export your current data and change for exportation)
2. transaction : SHDB
this transaction will record your activity and you can create new material by copy of old material or just change name or description of old materials . but actually use of this transaction is little difficult .
3. transaction : LTMC
this transaction is like LSMW , this one is new version .
hope this is useful .

Hello,
I do not remeber the exact procedure but you can do this using standard programs in 3 steps :
- RMDATGEN to read your material and create output file or IDOC
- modify generated IDOC or output file
- RMDATIN to imprt the modified file and create the new master data

Hi All,
The scenario is I will copy 5000 materials in SAP R/3 and rename the new materials and do few changes. (All this is happening in the same client)
Please help me with your thoughts in achieving this.

Hi Sandeep,
If the changes you have specified are to the same field, as specified earlier, the CATT procedure should help you.
You need to record the transaction for one material and then run the recording with inputs for the remaining materials coming from a excel sheet.
Reward if helped or let me know if you need further clarification.

Hi Sandeep,
A CATT procedure can be used for mass updation and deletion.
I have explained the procedure on 31/03/2007 for another mass updation requirement in the same forum with subject as 'Regarding Customer Master'.
Have a look and let me know if you have further doubts.
Rewards if helps.

Hi,
I have a scenario where i need to copy 5000 SAP R/3 materials into another 5000.
Only the naming convention would differ and the rest would remain unchanged.
