Understanding difference between SAP_APPL release 606 and 616

Hello All,

I came across a situation where I wanted to understand the difference between SAP_APPL release 606 and 616 (to be precise I was more interested understanding the significance of "1" in 616). Below is what I understood so far and thought to share with you all and seeking advice if its not correct or someone has further inputs to it.

SAP_APPL release 606 would mean Ehp6 of ECC 6.0 on NW lower than 7.4 (i.e; 7.0 to 7.31) and if system is on NW 7.4 or above then release of SAP_APPL would be 616 for Ehp6 of ECC 6.0.

If its Ehp7 of ECC 6.0 then you will find release of SAP_APPL as 617 only and NO 607 because Ehp7 can only be applied on ECC 6.0 if its NW 7.4 or above.

Best Regards,

NK

Hi Nikhil.

Check blog on about versioning of ERP system by Boris Rubarth .
Screenshot from blog which explain this.

So basically that '1' was introduced for HANA enabled EHP6 version and then continued.

Hello Gaurav,

"1" doesn't necessarily means it is for HANA. I have seen 616 and 617 on non HANA DB also and reasoning I gave above holds true.

Hello NK,

SAP_APPL 606 -> For EhP6 (NW 7.31) [If you look in SPAM, you will see release 606 was installed on top of 605].

SAP_APPL 616/617 -> For EhP7 (NW 7.40) [SPAM shows that 616/617 was installed on top of 606].

Cheers,

Hello Cris,

EHP's are installed in sequence only. Secondly, SAP_APPL 606 -> For EhP6 is NOT only for NW 7.31 but holds for NW 7.0, 7.01, 7.02 etc (but lower than NW 7.4)

Hello NK,

The best source of information is SAP note 774615, which lists all the software components used in a given product version.

Cheers,
