Hi Edmund,

This issue can have many causes I believe that the backup file is corrupted.

Question: how did you transfer this backup? Have you used FTP for example?

What is the complete error message?

Please see also the following Microsoft KB:

Dear Luis

Since my sql server version is 2012, the backup file also 2012.

I restore it to 2008 R2 version.

I transfer this backup file by remote desktop connection.

HI Edmund,

You cannot restore a backup taken in SQL Server 2012 into a SQL Server 2008 R2. You can only restore backups that were taken in the same version or in a lower relase, but not the opposite.

Check the Books Online for more help.
