Upgrade Pre-Requisite

Hi,

We have a scenario where our ECC landscape is going under an upgrade.

In this scenario, do we need to Stop the replication Jobs from SLT side.

Since the ECC upgrade is going on a shadow instance, we have a plan to stop the SLT replication (master Job) just before the down-time starts for ECC. For other Pre-processing steps for ECC upgrade, can SLT master jobs  can be switched on ?

Thanks

Hi Mrityunjay,

Yes, Replication can be on while upgrade pre-processing is running.

Stop the replication before downtime starts and it can be started after the upgrade.

Hi Mrityunjay

Have a look to the SLT operations guide, you will find the following mention :

If you use the correct SAP NetWeaver Basis Release, or the related SAP Notes for the related SAP NetWeaver Basis release, the created SAP LT Replication Server DB triggers will remain active during potential Data Dictionary changes (adding of non-key fields) or will be automatically deleted by the Data Dictionary tools.

Knowing this, you can in principle continue to have the triggers active and only need to re-load those tables where the triggers have been deleted during a software maintenance activity.

The SAP LT Replication Server checks for missing DB triggers and reports this error condition.

So you have to stop the replication jobs (as any other jobs interacting with the upgraded system). And you will have to check afterwards the lost triggers.

Hi Frederic,

Does that apply even if the ECC upgrade pre-processing is going on in a shadow instance.

This will result in a longer downtime for BI/HANA environment.

Thanks

I don't see why this processing mode (shadow instance) would impact the SLT behavior.

The SLT only interact with the "Real" instance and its triggers.
