Production planning for MRP
in our firm planning is done by planner and given to production team. But we want to keep production plant and planning plant different. At present planning and production is happening in the same plant which is creating lots of confusion to production department. All sales order are raise to production plant, depots also raise its requirement to production plant in the form of STPO process. So we are just wondering to create one more plants as planning plant. So the requirement will be given to planning plant i.e., sales order and STPO will come to planning plant, then this planning plant will give the requirement to production department in the excel file and at production plant, requirement will be generated which will be make to stock only. After producing the material stock will be transfer to planning plant through 301 or 641. Then from planning plant material will be sold or given to depot. Note : at present our warehouse is in production plant. Please suggest whether creating one more plant as planning will be legal or thrown some light for better way ro deal with this issue.

I understand your point of creating planning plant as virtual plant. In SAP, there is no such thing as virtual plant, all configurations are same as a normal. You can just name a new plant as the planning plant.
Now, while defining planning plant, you can not have exact same details as the other manufacturing plant, even if its not physically present. If you have mateiral or accounting documents getting posted involving taxes and duties then it should be defined seperately for legal point of view. As per standard documentation in library.
- You can use several R/3 plants to represent one physical location
- You can use one logical (R/3) plant to represent several physical locations.
