Hi,
i would like to install a SAP ABAP Application Server ABAP on SAP HANA Database
They will be Deployed on separated Server as below :
ERP app servers on Windows
HANA database on linux. ( a SAP appliance deliver by a hardware Partner )
During the installation of the ERP , Can the SAP ID be the same as the HANA database ID ?
Hi Bernard,
For Distributed system:
You can keep the SAME SID.
I mean for SAP HANA DB SID and SAP SID both can be same.
For Central system:
You must use a different SAP system ID (SID) for the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP system than that already specified for the installation of the SAP HANA database. ( I am still having doubt in this concept).
Thanks

Hi Mukesh,
thanks for this contribution.
I do understand your concerns, but from DMO perspective this is common practise:
DMO migrates an existing ABAP System to the SAP HANA database. The SID of the source system is kept, and the target SAP HANA database has it's own SID, typically different from the ABAP SID.

Hi Boris,
You may be right in DMO perspective, seems Bernard is talking about fresh installation. I have looked in the Installation guide and I have not found the instruction which states that DB and SAP id should be different (Except one, SAP ABAP on 7.4 on same host as the SAP HANA database - ONLY VALID FOR Linux).
With Below screen, anyway we are keeping database in separate host then I am very much sure that SAP SID and DB SID will be same.
Even I have worked in the same environment where DB SID and SAP IDs are same "the only difference I could see in instance no. of both HANA and SAP"
Below is only valid for Linux:
1953429 - SAP HANA and SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP on one Server

Thank You,

Hi Bernard,
check SAP Note 1953429:
Requirements:
- ...
- Separate SID‘s for both systems required.

Hello,
Yes it is recommended to have SAPSID=DBSID.
