"SAP Host Agent not running" Alert in SolMan Monitoring

Hello everybody,

since a couple of weeks we are facing an issue on two HP UX systems that are connected to our Solution Managers MAI. Every couple of days we receive the alert "SAP Host Agent not running". Having a look into the according metrics, we find the information:

SAP OsCol Web Service Availability

[RC=600] URL http://system1:1128/SAPOscol/?wsdl called unsuccessfully [Reason: Error to perform http request cause by java.net.SocketException: Socket output stream shutdown by peer..; nested exception is: java.net.SocketException: Socket output stream shutdown by peer.]

SAP Host Agent Web Service Availability

[RC=600] URL http://system1:1128/SAPHostControl/?wsdl called unsuccessfully [Reason: Error to perform http request cause by java.net.SocketException: Socket output stream shutdown by peer..; nested exception is: java.net.SocketException: Socket output stream shutdown by peer.]

To fix this problem we are logging into the system and restart the SAP Host Agent, which gives us a couple of days until the alert returns.

Today I was trying to have a closer look and found out:

1. Doing "telnet system1 1128" right on the command line of the system that is showing this problem leads to telnet connecting and immediately showing "Connection closed by foreign host." Doing the same but restarting the Host Agent before leads to a connection that will remain connected. Therefore I do not think the problem has anything to do with the SolMan connection.

2. Checking the sapstartsrv.log gives me some messages:

3. Using the guide "How to analyse the missing performace data situation and how to check SAPOsCol issues - Netweaver Te..." and the syntax "saphostctrl -function GetSAPOSColVersion" shows

Doing this after the Host Agent has been restarted:

4. I also found this entry in the host_profile file, which is discussed in the article above:

But I am not sure if there has to be a certain order for the service/porttypes.

Any idea what might be going wrong here and how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Daniel

Dear Friends,

This issue usually happen when there is a connection issue between Diagnostic agent and Host agent.

Please check the below note and link to resolve this issue :

2306147 - Diagnostics Agent connection error - Unexpected character found ['_' at position XX]

Hello Daniel,

for saposcol on HP-UX you need to ensure, that the OS patches are installed as mentioned in the notes:

http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2020706
http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2160578

Otherwise the latest saposcol will not run correctly. You are using 7.20 saposcol, this saposcol version is no more maintained. Please upgrade the SAPHOSTAGENT to the 7.21 version.

Hello Alwina,

thanks for your input 🙂 Already thought no one had an idea. I will check on these items.

What I can tell you so far: A couple weeks ago, we already tested v721 Host Agent and had the same issue, so we went back to v720.

But now with your two notes, it might be our solution. I'll keep you updated 🙂

Hello Alwina,

just wanted to post a little status update here: One of the two system will be patched on 09. November. We will see what happens after that.
