Parallel Jobs with same program and same variant

Hi Experts,

Can we run multiple jobs in background for same program and also if it has same variant.

we have a daily job set for a Program P1 with Variant V1. (this is for progress analysis) . Now we have some Month end series of jobs which are event based. We want to make sure that the Job P1V1 has run before  the MEC job starts. So we want to include P1V1 as a step in the MEC jobs.

But it could be possible that the daily job P1V1 is running while the MEC job which includes P1V1 is running. What will be the impact in that case?

Thanks,

Krishna

Hello Krishna,

=> Yes, you can. You can schedule the job to run periodically (minutes, hours etc.) depending upon your requirement.

=> The impact totally depends on what the P1V1 job does. So if you can clarify a little we can try to answer.

Hi Anita,

Thanks.

So the daily P1V1 job runs transaction CNE2 which is for progress analysis. It runs Monday to Friday daily at 7.00 pm.

Now during the month end close (which happens the Monday after last Saturday of month) job also need to start at 7.00 pm.

the Daily P1V1 job is a pre-requisite to MEC job. So we want to add that as a 1st step to the month end close job.

So there could be a situation when daily P1V1 job is running for progress analysis(CNE1/CNE2) and at the same time same program for same variant would also run as part of MEC job.

Since both the jobs are selecting same objects (WBS,Network, activity ect), will it cause any problem?

That's my question.

Hello Krishna,

Apologies for not being able to reply earlier. Not sure if this has been resolved at your end but here are my thoughts.

Depending on the time the job P1V1 takes to complete why don't we schedule it earlier to rest assured that it would complete before the MEC job. But this is trying to play it safe.

The other way is to test it in development environment where you start both the jobs simultaneously and find out if it does cause any issue.

Thanks.
