Hi Team,

We have web service concept in ABAP. Why we need to use PI web services.? What are the advantages of  PI web services over ABAP web services?

Hi Rama,

Yes we have webservice in ABAP/SAP ECC but generally we do not expose the SAP system or business critical systems to outside landscape. And any EAI/ESB product is used to integrate outside world to internal systems. This will enhance the IT security.

Hi Harish,

Actually in our landscape we have ECC, PI  and third party system. When transferring data from ECC to third party via PI we are using PI web services. My question is we have same web services concepts in ECC. Why can't we use ABAP web services?

Hi Nasaka,

You can use ABAP web services but you should think the problem of to have the interfaces no centralized. If tomorrow you have the order to stop all the interfaces for any migration, you should know that you have interfaces in PI and in ECC. To have ECC exposed to internet is a danger, it is better to have only one system like internet point access. In my opinion for a developer perspective there is not problem to use ABAP web services, you have monitoring as well, but on the future the maintenance is more complicated.
