Hi,
We are trying to explore FDA-UDI (Unique Device Identification) capability for MDG.
Can any one please provide some input. or links
Thanks.
Is that a standard field in the material master? Is it delivered as part of a specific industry solution?

UDI - is unique device identification proposed by FDA. This is a regulatory need from Feb/Mar 2015 to help track the medical devices.
This is part of Material Master record. It is not one field it is set of fields, it can be multiple data structures. We need to connect to Global UDI Database after creating an account with FDA.
The ideal capability is Enrichment of Material Data Structure along with interfaces to connect to external service.
I have seen some presentations by SAP, strategy was MDG will be the solution for this regulatory need. I do not have further leads.
There is a difference between whether the field exists in the standard delivered Material data model and the MDG Material data model. The MDG data model is a sub-set of the complete standard Material data model. Any way, see this document for MDG's Material Data Model: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/e03cb2f0-3e03-3010-cca5-d4cd11592c28
If the fields are not there, they can be added as custom fields in the MDG data model.
The main link can be found here: . This document also contains links on how to add existing material fields to the MDG data model.
