Message server is not coming up during Executionphase of upgrade

Dear All,

We are upgrading our SAP R/3 4.7 to ECC 6 EHP7. O/S is AIX 6.1 and database is Db2 9.1 FP10.

Got below error message during Execution phase.

When I check for the process list, found that message server is in stopped status.

ri3pa043:os2adm 8> sapcontrol -nr 00 -function GetProcessList

Issue resolved after copying db6 client related files(db2jcc_license_cu.jar, db2jcc4.jar, db2jcc.jar & folder db6_clidriver) from /usr/sap/OS2/DVEBMGS00/exe to /sapmnt/OS2/exe/uc/rs6000_64.

Thanks RB for your quick response.

Message Server ASCS has nothing to do with DB

The message server should now be part of the ASCS which will have its own system number. Check if the MS is running under that system number.

Also check if the SAP is running.

Hello RB,

Thanks for the quick response. SAP is running, I am able to open the system from GUI as well but upgrade is not moving further.

Can u pls. guide me how to identify the system number for ASCS instance?

Thanks,

Vinay

Identifying the system number is a very basic task. You can identify the ASCS number by checking its profile and also from the directory name ASCS<NN> located under /usr/sap/OS2. If SAP is running then your issue appears too be something else. Check the logs in the upgrade directory.

I am sorry...My system is ABAP only so there no ASCS instance found.

I very well read your initial thread before replying and I know it is just an ABAP stack.

For systems based on newer Netweaver releases there is separate ASCS for ABAP systems.

ohh..ok, thanks for the detailed explanation. But I do not see any ASCS<NN> folder under /usr/sap/<SID>.

By the way Upgrade completed successfully, I do not see any ASCS instance in the system.
