SUM tool fails NW 7.02 -> NW 7.3 java in Remove-Old-DB-Content step

Well into the execution phase of an upgrade of NW Java 7.02 to NW Java 7.3, we encounter this nebulous error that is leaving me little in the way of "known issues" in my searches.  Anyone encounter this or have ideas on why it's stopping now? An error has occurred during the execution of the Remove old db content  step with action execute. Service com.sap.sdt.j2ee.services.servicesimpl.UndeployDBContentService failed with the following message: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/dictionary/database/dbs/DbMsgHandler : cannot initialize class because prior initialization attempt failed You can find more information in the files /usr/sap/EP3/SUM/sdt/log/SWITCH/REMOVE-OLD-DB-CONTENT_06.LOG and ProcessOverview.html. Use the information provided to trouble-shoot the problem. There might be an OSS note providing a solution to this problem. 1.  Could you share the log file "REMOVE-OLD-DB-CONTENT.LOG " ?

2. Is it possible do the full restart and then check the same phase.

The full log is above in my initial post starting with the REMOVE-OLD-DB-CONTENT.LOG section (pasted below).  Restarting at this point is a last option since we're into the execution phase and many of the components have been deployed thus far. can you restart the instance once and try again. Also from error its not clear which component it is trying to undelpoy.

But does not specify which component like the previous lines.

so if you share few logs of the same phase may be you can attach the logs here in SCN. Will give us more in sight of the error.

Also most of the time initialization error get resolved after restart of instance.
