Hello Experts,

I am new to MDG technology and would require your help in understanding the same.

could anyone let me know what is the acutal use of MDG. Why we need to go for it. I have gone through couple of documents which says it has some advantages over MDM. Is this because why we need to consider SAP MDG for Master Data ? or is there any specific usage of MDG ?

Also please let me know if we have any challenges too in SAP MDG.

I know im asking a very basic question but couldnt stop myself asking this. Because, I havent get the actual information I needed regarding SAP MDG.

Thanks

Anand

Hello Anand,

SAP MDG is SAP solution to ensure data quality at the point of creation. SAP MDG is a HUB for master data creation/maintainance/distribution. All the business rules are enforced during create and change process to ensure the master data record are consistent, compliant,No duplication and serve as single point of truth for all connected systems.

Fur businesses where master data records are created and consumed in distributed systems, the quality of master data cannot be trusted 100%. For such business it is highly recommended solutions.

MDG is not complete solution for data quality. It's main strength is Governance during creation/change of data records. It has limited support for data consolidation/cleansing for mass data.

For Data quality specialised products in SAP portfolio are SAP BOIS and SAP BODS.

SAP BOIS -> Define business rules based cleansing packages, Measure data quality metrics based on these.

SAP BODS -> Consolidate data from different systems, Cleanse , standardize , De-duplicate, Enrichment of data using address directories, migration of cleansed data to MDG hub.

Hey, Anand!

1) From my point of view the main advantage, are out-of-the box scenarios for main domains of master data(materials, business partners, financial). Especially in SAP-landscape, because MDG have native replication instrument with SAP systems (DRF). Another big advantage of MDG practically is the performance, SAP MDM with complex customizing of repo+java portal+bpm really lacks performance with big volume of data. Also MDM is near of the end of official support, but each MDG release contains new useful features

2) SAP MDG has some native Data Quality instruments on duplicate check, but it can be also integrated with SAP DQM, SAP Information Steward.

Also please google "SAP roadmap for enterprise data management" to find some answers.

Sorry for my english.
