Business case for migration to Java Only stack from PI 7.31 dual to PO 7.4 single stack

Hi Experts,

While proposing the single stack to customer we have below situation. Please provide inputs if you have made business case in below  scenario.

Assuming the customer does not require BPM/BRM and also performance is not a criteria for decision making – what could be a business case for a customer to move from Dual Stack today 7.31 to a Single Stack 7.4.

I have listed down couple of cases which are nice to have but not Killer advantage:

  • Reduce maintenance costs – additional instances would not have to be backed up or maintained/monitored.
  • Quicker troubleshooting (as now we would have lesser moving parts) and less log places to check
  • Simpler upgrades (java only upgrades are often SCA installations unlike upgrading ABAP based servers)
  • Reduction in overall TCO with single stack (requires less hardware compared to dual stack)
  • Faster installation and restart
  • Single stack ESB capabilities through Advanced Adapter Engine - Up to 60% less energy consumption
  • It is easier to monitor. Configure and tune the PO system  since PO runs on one technical platform
  • Improved User Defined Message Search feature which benefits operations team
  • Feature for blacklisting rogue/large messages which disrupt and cause downtime of SAP PI systems
  • The data flow is secure in SAP PO as no SAP PI user’s hacking is possible.

Please provide the business cases.

Thanks and Regards,

Alpa Khare

Hi,

Dual stack is not on the roadmap for SAP. They will discontinue it in the long run.

Hi Alpa,

With out using BPM/BRM in single stack, we can achieve most of the business requirements using standard module beans provided by SAP.

Performance will improve drastically if we go with single stack version.

Lot of new features have been added in PI 7.4 which makes life easier in most of the cases like

-->Support for central Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) for multiple PI domains

-->Eclipse-based tools (in NWDS) for ESR and Configuration
