Fixed technical names on BPC cubes and attributes

Hi all

So we have a 10.0 NW installation Sp03. I know, it's ancient. We will upgrade soon.

However, in the current mess we find ourselves, technical names of cubes and attributes dont tend to remain the same when we transport across the landscape.

SAP provides two notes - 1689814 and 1823400. Both are too complicated and invasive to implement.

The question is - if we were to upgrade to Netweaver 7.4 and a newer version of BPC 10.0, would we still have to implement these notes? Or can we get away with a few cutover steps.

PS: upgrade within 10.0 because not such a fan of 10.1 given it takes away the flexibility of BPC as such and becomes more IP-centric

regards

Shrikant

Hi,

To emphasize what Vadim said, BPC 10.1 classic model is exactly like BPC10 with one difference being the web client is based on HTML5 not Flex.

The IP centric version is BPC 10.1 embedded version.

Best Regards,

Leila

Hi Shrikant,

If you upgrade BW to 7.4 and BPC 10.0 to SP04 or higher you don't need to implement those Notes.

Hi Shrikant

If you concern is change in the technical name during transport, you can maintain simple settings for the model in SPRO.

In SPRO-->Planning and Consolidation--> Configuration Parameters-->Enter Model Parameters

or T-code: UJ0_IMG_03

Select your Environment and Model and execute. Create a new entry for field name ENABLE_FIXED_CUBENAME and enter value as X. Maintain these settings in development and then transport. In the target system, you have to manually maintain it once again.

Once you have these settings in source and target system, the technical names will not change when you transport.

Hi Shrikant,

First you have to understand the SP equivalents of different BW versions (like SP11 on BW730 is equivalent to SP04 on 740)

Second: 10.1 standard is absolutely the same as 10.0 (but with better web interface).
