The field will default to 0 as it needs a value, but you have it displays Blank, by selecting the transaction property, and click on the option that shows says something like "Show blank when 0"
I have selected the check box "Blank when displaying zero" at both Transaction and Object (property is of type Decimal Number) level, even though the field in screen is defaulted to "0".
