Change it permanently or conditionally? Conditionally, it is usually a good idea to make the necessary ECC configuration changes that will turn that field to read-only in the original transaction. This behavior will be reflected in MDG in most cases.
Permanently, you can create an FPM customization in which you can change that field to a text field rather than an input field.
