Hi Mates,

Our CO consultants have requested for a new sandbox with whole production data in it. I totally don't have any idea on creation of sandbox.

Should we install a new SAP system with the whole configuration as in PRD system in a new server. Do someone have any details or documents regarding installation of sandbox. How to move data from production to sandbox. Please do help.

Thanks&Regards,

Adarsh

Hi Adarsh,

You can go for a homogeneous system copy. Depending on the database, you can select the database specific method, for eg, for ORACLE - go for backup and restore and for DB2 go for a redirected restore etc. Also, you can use R3load based system copy method to build your target system.

You can start with below URL.

System Copy - Technical Operations Manual for SAP NetWeaver - SAP Library

Hi Duvyanshu,

Thanks for your reply. But i want to know some more details. Homogeneous system copy means the whole system data and configuration will be copied to a new client without we needing to install SAP in the server since it will be totally a different server?

Thanks&Regards,

Adarsh

Of course, you need to install the SAP software using SWPM and the data will come from the production system using above method - depending on the type of option you choose, DB specific or R3load/Jload based method. .Also, it depends on the system type you have, the release of your system and database( for DB method).

Please read the system copy guide once, related to your system release.

Hi Adarsh

Just go thru the new SAP System copy guide based on your System OS / DB & SAP version

refer the System copy guide link SAP NetWeaver Guide Finder.

Hello Adarsh,

You need to install new system, same version which you have in productive landscape.

Then perform homogeneous system copy using backup and restore method.

You will need to be following SAP note.

Cleanup PRD references in the sandbox, such as RFC connections, logical systems,PRD license, etc

Hi Adarsh ,

If  you are building a  new sandbox , there should be a specific requirement why the sndbox need to be built . Normally it would be to test  some important production scenario .If this is the case then  your sanbox would need to be closely resembling your production  ( or proposed production )

Hence

1 ) Make sure that the OS and DB matches same to that of your prodoction .

2 ) (a)Take an Export / Import  ( method ) OR Homogeneous system copy method /

     (b) Backup/restore Method  [ Using SWPM ]

From Production and build the new sandbox .

Follow the Link provided by Divyanshu , also you would find many more documents on the same

Note : Export /Import Method would be very time consuming if your production DB is huge , hence the backup/restore method using SWPM   can be used if the DB is huge  [ You can even use an online backup taken from production ].

Thanks ,

Manu
