How to identify the Sybase IQ license you have is a sub-capacity one.

The Solaris Sparc  machine on which Sybase IQ 16 is installed is having 64 cores . But IQ works only when 8 cores are enabled and rest are disabled.

This is limiting the Server to be used by other applications . Is the 8 core license I am having is not  a sub-capacity license ?

Hi,

Additionally, please post the output of "cpuinfo -v2".

You can find details how IQ recognizes the cpu info as follows.

We have a license of 8 Core .So 8 core in our case is 8 logical processor as given in the output of cpuinfo.

Hi,

According to the output of cpuinfo -v2, IQ recognizes the cpu license as 1 Core.

Because IQ only checks the number of core not logical processor.

You can find the count in use in sp_iqlmconfig output.

IQ_CORE License Count in use 1 (CPU core based).

And IQ only find 1 CPU Chip on this machine.

2015/08/26 17:43:19  Physical CPUs: 1

2015/08/26 17:43:19  CPU Chips: 1

I think You need to check this machine is partitioned logically such as LPAR...

8 logical processors might be affected by hyper-threading , SMT...

Here is an associated KBA regarding Subcapacity license.

Hi Amit,

Based on what you describe, you probably have unserved license for 8 core with HOSTID = default host-id in .lic file.

Please check  SyBooks Online

If you are using sub-capacity & unserved license, your .lic file will have HOSTID = the machine-ID, the partition-ID, or the resourceset-ID, depending upon your configuration.

Hope that helps.

Milind ..
