Options for Scheduling in APO

Hi Gurus,

We are facing a challenge while implementing PPDS for a site. The site has upto 3 tiers of BOM starting from Finished Good upto Raw Materials.Users do not like the option of automatic scheduling as they find the results a bit diffcult to understand in the initial phase. We tried using the option of 'show relationship -- pegging relationship' in the Resource Chart in the Planning Board and although it works but it gets too complex because of two reasons:(1) There are several operations inside each order/level

(2) There are upto 3-4 levels of HALB and they need to see capacity overload as well in addition to alignment of Dates from Finished Good to Raw Materials.

-- so the entire flow from Finished Good to Raw Materials becomes a criss-cross.

We tried option of using Pegging/context in the product view after selecting an order and although it can help to align the dates but capacity overload will still remain a problem and they need to open another screen of either Resource Planning Table or Resource Utilization report (/sapapo/cdps_rept) to see the capacity situation. Working with two windows in parallel is not easy and even if they succesfully manage the flow for one FERT order from Top to Raw materials including capacity leveling then also if another order comes which needs those finite resources --then they need to plan the first order again.

The questions are :

1. Is there some better way in Planning Board to see the linking of Finished Goods with Intermediates along with dates and capacity?

2. Is there some better option in APO overall for the above situation ?

Hi,

Did you try to restrict your selection by product and work center? Also, you can use the extended selection to show just the products with Receipts.

You can use the BadI /SAPAPO/PPT_SELECT to restrict the selection based on your needs.

Thanks but can you please explain a bit more as I am not clear with your reply.

If by restriction you mean different work-areas then we already have these corresponding to different departments -- so we are not loading all the resources in one go for sure.

If the restriction is already used the only solution that I see is to create a custom chart in the PPDS planning board.

Sorry if I am a pain but custom chart for what features ? The features we need are already there in Planning Board.

The issue here is :

1. Is there some better and less complex way in Planning Board to see the linking of Finished Goods with Intermediates along with dates and capacity?

2. Is there some better option in APO overall for the above situation related to scheduling ?

3. Overall to see the pegging between Intermediate and FG -- except pegging relationships in Planning Board and Pegging overview in Product Chart - is there something else which can be helpful ?
