They are just two different techniques to be used with FPM. I am not sure why they used different techniques. Personally, I would have loved if all three MDG modules used the same technique. My guess is that three different teams worked on each and ended up building it slightly different. For GenIL, I believe that CRM uses that a lot. So, it might have made sense for that team to use whatever already exists. I believe it is the same for SPI.
