Database Virtualization

Hello,

first I have to say sorry for my English.

We have an application which uses the SAP DB in Version 7.7.07.16 in the background.

We virtualized the server, which is hosting the application on VMware ESXi 5.5.

The Server is a Windows Server 2008R2.

Now we have a lot of performance problems only with this software.

Could it be that the used database is not compatible for virtualization?

Peter,

You can check the PAM (Product Availability Matrix) to find out if you are running the right Mix of SAP Software x DB x OS.

You didn't mention what SAP Solution you are running.

Anyways do check the PAM, also there are multiple notes (Search with Term virtualization) where you will find out if there are any exceptions or performance related remarks for Virtualized Platforms.

Akshay

Hello Akshay,

thank you for your reply.

It would help me, if you could send me a link with the address, where I can find the PAM.

Peter

hi Peter,

the PAM only provides information about supported configurations of Windows, MaxDB and SAP application - not about virtualization. The PAM is available at http://support.sap.com/pam.

For virtualization-related information, check the SCN sites:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-28742

http://scn.sap.com/community/it-management/virtualization/windows

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-27384

as well as the SAP Notes linked to SAP Note 1492000 for further help.

Best, Claudia
