Ideally you'd go on a course. That's the best way.
Failing that, a combination of the tutorials available on SAP would help. The problem with tutorials is that you have no idea of the reporting requirements that are driving the tutorials - they are showing techniques rather than the overall process.
If you have a computer at home, download something like SQL Server Express and start to understand how to build a database too. Then you can appreciate some of the functions that you can use to enhance a database.
It's a lot more difficult to build a good universe than to build a good report but also far more important that you do so.
