Change Number Requirements in the Engineering Workbench (CEWB)

While changing an operation on a routing component using transaction CEWB, I am required to provide a change number.  However, when I change the same component using transaction CA02, I am NOT required to provide a change number.  I would think/hope the two transactions would work the same way.  Is there something I am missing in the Engineering Workbench, perhaps some additional input, that will allow me to change the operation on a component for a routing without a change number?

Hello Mike,

did you find a solution for this? I only found a hint that mass change transactions for routing won't let you change unless you enter a change number (ECN) if they have already been changed with an ECN.
But CA02 does not have that checking feature.

How did you solve this ... is there a Customizing available for this?

it should be possible to also work without change number.

CEWB was introduced with R/3 4.6A and added some ECM capabilities on routings. But it did not change any behavior on CA02. Maybe you have history requirement on the routing respectively related BOM.
