DD import finished with return code 4

Dear Experts,

I am  updating saint/spam from version 7.40/0054 to 0058 from last 4 days. every thing goes right but after few minutes, updating gets stuck  at

DD Import finished with return code 4,

when i see the logs in usr\sap\trans\log it shows me the modified time exact the same when i started the update job, there no modification after that, and in archive files, i see the last archived file, which was made hours earlier.

Please help me,

I´ve the same issue with an IDES 7.4 ERP EHP 7. I make this to solve:

At this stage you can reset your spam queue...

Go to Tx SE37

select program name : OCS_RESET_QUEUE

test/execute (f8)

give the value for import parameters

IV_tool : SPAM

IV_FORCE : X

Execute (f8)

there after the spam queue will get reset and then you can do it again.

After that I have applied this note to reimport the SAPM

Have you tried to restart the system? And are there unprocessed items in TRBAT? If there are, please post the entries.

It's a table - just view it with SE16. If there are any entries, it means that a transport isn't processed completely yet. Maybe your database is stuck?

Try restarting your system and check this table again - sometimes the locks are resolved automatically. If not, I suggest contacting SAP support. I once had a deadlock while importing SAP_BASIS - this could be resolved by restarting (phew...).

Support Packages / Upgrade / EHPs

IDES specific Support Packages do not exist.

Patching and Upgrade of IDES systems are no longer supported. IDES should only be operated as a seperate installation. Each new release requires a new installation!

Due to the complexity of the IDES systems and the number of preinstalled components/AddOns it is not possible any more to generate a consistant maintenance (MOPZ) within the Solution Manager. Because of this technical restriction we recommend to wait for coming IDES versions/releases.

Hello Faheem,

It is not recommended to update the IDES system becuase there are a lot of components which are pre-installed on this system and you might not have licenses for it and also it might not be possible to generate a consistent stack.xml file you your patching. Apart from that I dont see a reason why you
cant perform SPAM/SAINT update on your IDES system.

Now coming to issue, hang situation at patching and performance issue at patching cannot be considered same. During the patching with SPAM/SAINT tool , logs are written first in <DIR_TRANS>/tmp directory and when phase is finished, its written in <DIR_TRANS>/log directory.

So in case you feel that phases is hanged check if you see any updates in logs in tmp directory. You can also check if you see any activity at OS level . Check for CPU and memory usage , this might give you if phase is indeed hanged or just running slow.

The error mentioned could be due to multiple reasons,

i would suggest you to paste Import logs,Action logs.
