Hi P M.

My first advice is looking for SAP official training in your country.  You can also attend e-courses and e-academies .

That's the best way to do it and will give you the chance to demonstrate proper knowledge even if you haven't passed the certification exam yet.

If you aren't able to start official training yet, SAP Press has several good official books that you can read in order to have a quick start . Some of them include a trial environment that you can use to practice.  You can also find several tutorials and short courses here in SCN that will give you additional knowledge.

Nowadays, Consulting companies look for people with more than one skill, so you can apply to job interviews in your previous field and show your new knowledge in ABAP as value added.

By the other hand, ABAP job offer has decreased because month after month there are lots of new ABAP consultants getting certified .  So, since you have had experience in middleware, there are other technologies that can give you an entry to SAP world leveraging your previous experience.

You can give a look at SCN posts about NETWEAVER, XI/PI/PO, among others.   There are new development technologies within SAP ecosystem like SAPUI5 and HANA that might be interesting alternatives for you.
