Migrating from IBM's WebsPhere to WAS...

Has anyone migrated from IBM's Websphere app server to WAS? If so, did u use SAP's Migration Tool Kit? Not sure if support's Websphere yet or not. Can you provide any lessons learned on your experience? When you migrated your apps, did you move the data into SAP's data dictionary and Design Time Repository?

Hi Peggy,

We have been helping companies to port their existing J2EE based applications from WebSphere and Weblogic to SAP Netweaver platform.

Some of our customers have over 250 ejb's and more complex J2EE application running on Weblogic and WebSphere.

The goal was to take the .ear file and deploy on SAP platform with out any code change. We were able to accomplish that with no code changes; We just have to modify the CMP's and database connections.

We can provide guidance and best practices for porting applications into SAP Netweaver platform.

Hallo Peggy,

SAP's J2EE migration kit does not give any tool support for migrating J2EE applications from WebSphere to Web AS. Especially, no conversion of deployment descriptors is supported for WebSphere.

To your second question - whether the sources are to migrate into DTR or not depends on the decision you have made concerning the future development environment. If you think on using SAP features like WebDynpro, using the NWDS will be necessary, and using the NWDI (NetWeaver development Infrastructure) might be a good idea. At least if you are going to use the NWDI migrating all sources to the DTR will become necessary.
