Linear Regression only on Time Hierarchy?

I am running 1.27.

Seems linear regression only works if using Time Hierarchy for X values.   Is this true? 

If so,   How to handle data that doesn't fit that model?

ie.

I have Week, Month, Quarter, Year data coming in.  No date.  Thats too much data.

I can build a custom hierarchy on these fields, but can't leverage regression.

I can create a single X value from Year/Qtr  , or Year/Week..  so there is single list of X values from which to run the regression.

That doesn't work either. 

Is this current behavior? Or am I missing something?

According to the SAP Lumira Help on page 136 it does require a time hierarchy - see http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/vi01/en/lum_127_user_en.pdf

To forecast based on month, quarter, etc. that works well with SAP Predictive Analytics - you can download a trial at this link

I saw that...was hoping there was a trick...to get around it.
