Error when starting SUM tool

Hi All,

When i am trying to launch SUM through DSUGUI.BAT, i am getting the below error, how do i fix this?

Hello Mrigank,

Can you try updating Parameter in default profile and check service/protectedwebmethods = NONE from SDEFAULT.

Restart SAP

Can you uninstall/delete the SUM directory and retry?

Hello ,

Hope SUM directory is present under /usr/sap/SID/SUM and also runiing with sidadm user.

I uninstalled SUM and reinstalled under usr/sap/sid/sum it worked.

Set path environment variable for complete path till exe and launch SUM again.

Hi Divyanshu,

I am trying the same, can you help me with the path to be set in environment variable, if the path is D:/usr/sap/sid/sys/exe/uc/ntamd64 for sapcontrol.exe what shall i write in the place of environment variables.

In general, the environment of SID and tool SUM should have exe PATH set.

If not, you can append the current PATH variable.

Ok, if PATH is correct then do below



1. Set the following in the default profile (DEFAULT.PFL) - service/protectedwebmethods = DEFAULT


2. Restart all sapstartsrv services in the cluster to activate the changes.


3. Restart all Server and Central Services Instances.


4. Resume the update with SUM.


5. When finished, restore DEFAULT.PFL to its initial state.

Also share the PATH variable and SUM logs.

Have you tried with latest SUM ?

Can you share the value of DIR_INSTANCE and contents of "\usr\sap\SOL\SUM\sdt\tmp" ?

DIR_INSTANCE = D:\usr\sap\$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)\$(INSTANCE_NAME)

The Tmp folder has many files, which file shall i share?
