Edition Valid to Issue

Hi

SAP help documentation says that

When you create an edition, the system automatically determines the date to which the edition can be valid so as to eliminate any time overlaps with existing editions. A previous edition will only be valid until the Valid from date of the new edition.

But in MDG7.0 with SP06 I created two editions with same edition type 0G_ALL

Edition 1 with valid from 01012003 and system defaulted valid to date is 31129999.

Edition 2 with valid from 01012004 and system defaulted valid to date is 31129999.

Now as per SAP logic changes automatically happens for Edition 1 valid from date is 01012003 and valid to date is 31122003.

But it seems from USMD020C (Edition Table) still

Edition 1 with valid from 01012003 and system degfaulted valid to date is 31129999.

Edition 2 with valid from 01012004 and system degfaulted valid to date is 31129999 and both the editions with status In process.

It is happening for MDG6.1 but not for MDG7.0. Any reason for this?

Hi Sanjay,

in edition to Kiran's reply, please keep in mind that the documentation you mentioned differs from MDG 6.1 to MDG 7.0. The reason for that simply is that MDG 7.0 changes the behavior of edition management.

Hi Michael/Kiran

Thanks for confirmation.

Actually my issue is there are multiple (App.2000) Cost Centers/Profit Centers in Operational ECC system with validity date 01012003 and valid to date is 31122099.

We can not load upload then with edition from 01012003 to 31129999 or with released edition also.

Then is any way to load then as per ECC validity dates?

Hello Sanjay

How come you have same cost center in ECC? Its not possible. Either the one would be inactive with different validity dates.

1. Fist check the entire ECC data and then sort it based on validity

2. Create editions according to ECC validity period.

3. Release oldest edition and then only create new edition and load the data.

You need to follow same process till the time you get the final edition with end date as 9999

Hi Kiran

There are existing cost centers (1000+) in ECC with validity date 01012003 to 31122099.

I want to do intial upload for then in MDG.

How to do this as dont want to date as 31129999 as per edition?

I know we can create two editions with one with 31129999 load date first and again create new edition with valid from date 01012100 and load same data again. So that data lies in two valiodity periods one is 31122099 and second validity is 31129999. But I dont want second validity period at all . How to achieve this?

You need to release the edition then only the end date of 1st edition will change. If you keep both open then there won't be any effect.
